The National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 70E Standard for Electrical safety Requirements for Employee Workplaces 2000 Edition was developed in conjunction with OSHA to define safe work practices for employees working on or around live voltage.


 

Under these criteria, employees must do the following:

  • Be trained in safe work practices.
  • Mark electrical panels with proper warning labels.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (safety glasses, face shield, flame resistant clothing, hand and arm protection (gloves)).


Under these new criteria, personnel who have not been certified as trained and wearing approved personal protective equipment, shall not open panels over 50VDC to program a device within the panel.

Using a Walther Remote Access Interface Port allows you to comply to OSHA 29 CRF 1910.147, NFPA 70E and NFPA 79 Electrical Machinery Safety Standard 2002 Edition Sections 16.1.1 (6), 16.1.2.

Walther Remote Access Interface Ports allow you to access data and power from the outside of your enclosure. This is accomplished by mounting the panel mount housing interface to the outside of a panel that houses a PLC or computer. The Walther Remote Access Interface Port allows users to interface the PLC or computer without opening the panel door, thereby eliminating the potential safety hazards associated with having an open electrical panel.

The standard Walther Remote Access Interface Port contains one or more of the connectors that are commonly used to interface a PLC, computer, or other devices that are commonly housed inside a panel.

Walther Remote Access Interface Ports include a variety of interconnects such as commonly used D-Subminiature connectors (9, 15, 25, 37 or high density 15 pin), RJ45, RJ11, DIN, BNC, coaxial, PS2, USB and 3.5” floppy drive connectors. These connectors are available alone in a data port or with a simplex, duplex, GFCI duplex or with any other connector type. The benefit to the designer and user is that there are few limitations.
